Prudential launches PRUChoice Furkid Care Insurance for pets;
One-stop pet protection shows commitment to provide comprehensive care for furkids as beloved family members
(24 August 2022, Hong Kong) Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited (‘Prudential’) announced the launch of PRUChoice Furkid Care Insurance, a brand new comprehensive protection solution designed to meet the insurance needs of “paw-rents” and their “furkids,” one that reflects Prudential’s “We DO Family” spirit and its ongoing commitment to providing total protection for more families.
As a trusted insurance partner of Hong Kong families, Prudential is now extending its protection to family pets, or furkids. Its new product offers four key benefits: the market unique emergency pet-sitting care, third party legal liability, medical expenses and funeral expenses. In addition, it includes “first-in-market” customised policy documents and privileged offers.
A furkid is an indispensable part of those families with pets. According to the Census and Statistics Department1, approximately 10% of domestic households in Hong Kong keep cats or dogs, with more than 400,000 furkids in total. Under the work-from-home and social distancing practices adopted during the pandemic, Hong Kong pet owners spent more time with their furkids.
“With declining birth rates and late marriage among the changes in global demographics in recent years, very often you see more people opt to keep pets as their life companions. Pets are seen as beloved family members and as attitudes to pet ownership change over time, so pet-spending behaviour is becoming more humanised,” said Kelly Mok, General Manager, Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited.

Four key benefits include market unique “PAWcation” Emergency Pet-Sitting Care
Tailor-made for microchipped dogs and cats aged between 13 weeks and 8 years, PRUChoice Furkid Care Insurance features four intimate benefits to protect the furry family members. In addition to medical expenses, third-party legal liability and funeral expenses, a market unique feature also covers emergency pet-sitting expenses.
In cases where an insured furkid owner is hospitalised or has their return trip to Hong Kong delayed caused by natural disaster or mechanical / structural defect of aircraft etc. for more than two consecutive days, Prudential will reimburse the cost of pet-sitting at a licensed pet-sitting facility, offering peace of mind for the PAWrents. By using PRUMobile eClaims, customers can submit eClaim easily, as well as checking the claim status and policy details anytime, anywhere.

Market-first customised policy documents and privileged offers add sparkle to pet insurance
Each beloved furkid is unique in the eyes of every paw-rent. Prudential provides a customised policy document with the name and photograph of the insured furkid. A range of privileged offers are handpicked to pamper paw-rents and their furry companions, including offers in collaboration with pet shops, pet services, animal hospitals, pet-friendly restaurants under The Hooman Group, as well as wellness programmes for furkids and their parents.3
From now till 30 September 2022, customers can enjoy a refund of up to 15% of the first-year annualised premium by successfully taking out PRUChoice Furkid Care Insurance*. They will receive a Pawsonalised Mini Octopus card (value HK$3004) with a photo of their pets, so as to keep their furkids close at all times, if they take out the plan by 31 August 2022*.
