Prudential’s brand new EasyWell Critical Illness Protection Series offers highly leveraged protection and a suite of affordable, tailor-made supplementary benefits
(14 February 2022, Hong Kong) Prudential Hong Kong Limited (‘Prudential’) launched EasyWell Critical Illness Protector, a highly leveraged and flexible whole life critical illness protection solution, to provide financial protection for customers against the most common critical illnesses at affordable premiums with up to HK$100 worth of protection for every HK$1 premium1. The plan allows customers, including young families, to add-on extra protection options at a low cost to enhance protection in different life stages; while offering high level of protection at a low premium to those, including more mature customers, who seek for cost-effective choices.
According to government statistics, critical illnesses such as cancer, heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases were the leading causes of death in Hong Kong in 20202, where the early onset of these critical illnesses is on the rise. In Hong Kong, the cancer incident rate for the age group of 20 to 44 has increased by 14% between 2010 and 20193. Foreign studies also suggest that suffering a heart attack before the age of 40 is not uncommon4 and the incident rate of stroke for people aged 25 to 44 has soared by nearly 44% in 10 years5.
“In today’s society, the pursuit of health and wellness has become a trend; however, the general public, especially the younger generation, may still underestimate the risk of early onset of critical illnesses and the serious complications potentially caused by COVID-19, and take protection against critical illness lightly,” said Priscilla Ng, Chief Marketing and Partnership Distribution Officer at Prudential. “The newly launched EasyWell Critical Illness Protector offers an essential whole life critical illness protection at an affordable premium, allowing customers to strengthen their protection net by tailor-making their own plans with greater flexibility and in accordance to their protection needs and budget at different life stages.”
Combining protection with long-term savings in one plan
By paying an affordable premium over a limited period, the insured will be protected by the whole life protection of EasyWell Critical Illness Protector against 56 major disease conditions including but not limited to cancer, heart attack or stroke. If the life assured is diagnosed with one of these major disease conditions covered, they will be paid a lump-sum of 100% of the current sum assured and a non-guaranteed one-off Terminal Bonus (on or after the 5th policy anniversary) as a Major Disease Benefit.
Customising own plans with strengthened protection
The plan offers Benefit Protector Option to combat inflation with additional premiums, which automatically increases protection by 5% of the initial sum assured every year, up to 200% of the initial sum assured. Besides comprehensive critical illness protections, customers can add more cover under the EasyWell Supplementary Benefit Series at an affordable premium. The supplementary benefits include EasyWell Severe Cancer Care which enhances protection against Severe Cancer (i.e. Stage 3 or 4 Cancer) with a lump-sum cover; and EasyWell Critical Illness MultiCare which provides multi-coverage against cancer, heart attack and stroke. In addition, customers can enhance life and critical illness, medical expenses, disability and accidents protection by paying extra premiums.
“Advances in medical technology, such as minimally invasive surgery and new medications for cancer, have been adopted by patients but the medical expenses are getting more expensive. Additionally, there is a rapid spread of the new coronavirus variants in Hong Kong nowadays. COVID-19 patients can possibly develop severe complications, such as cardiac damage, heart attack and kidney failure,” said Dr. Dennis Yeung, medical expert at Prudential Health Assessment Centre. “It is important for us to actively build a health safety net to protect against the onset of diseases, easing the family burden with the timely financial support and focusing on recovery with peace of mind.”
Offering value-added services: “Treatment Sure” and “SmartAppoint Service”
EasyWell Critical Illness Protector also offers two value-added services. Treatment Sure provides personalised second medical opinions from a network of over 50,000 global medical experts covering over 450 specialities, as well as overseas treatment arrangements ranging from specialist options, booking appointments and translation services to post-treatment guidance. The SmartAppoint Service enables policyholders to appoint a designated family member in advance to help file a claim and access the claim payment on their behalf in the event of being mentally incapacitated due to sicknesses or unforeseen circumstances. This service provides immediate financial relief when it matters the most for the family.
From now until 24 February 2022, customers successfully taking out EasyWell Critical Illness Protector together with two or more of the selected supplementary benefits can enjoy a 50% refund of the first year annualised premium, getting multiple protection at lower premiums.
